University of Delaware students, faculty, and staff can download software licensed for their use from UDeploy.

Origin

Overview

The University of Delaware has a campus-wide license for the graphics and data analysis program Origin for Windows systems. The software may be downloaded and used by UD undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and staff for research and instructional purposes only. It may be installed on UD-owned and personally owned systems.

By downloading Origin Software, you agree to use the Origin software for instructional and research use only and that you will not distribute Origin to others.

The most current version of Origin is 2024 (SR1). New features for this version are described here.

This software is available in Remote Computer Labs, which can be used through your web browser. The software may be used for faculty and student classwork, but may not be used for research. Visit the Remote Computer Labs support site for details on accessing this service

Installation

  1. Download a version of Origin from the right-hand column and open the downloaded file.
  2. If prompted, select Run and accept any security warnings.  You may need to select Run a second time.
  3. On the Origin Setup Screen, select Next then Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  4. Leave Install Product (requires serial number) selected, then select Next.
  5. Enter Customer Information, type the following information:
    • User Name: Your full name.
    • Company Name: University of Delaware.
    • Serial Number: Copy from download page
    • Confirm registration by selecting Next.
    • Select the remainder of the default choices, including the one that will start Origin as Administrator and license it.

License Origin

  1. Register for a product key
    • Click this link to the Product Key Request page to get a Product Key.
    • If you have not previously created one, register an account using your University of Delaware email account (i.e. username@udel.edu).
      • Note: The password associated with this new Origin account is not linked to your University of Delaware password. It is best to choose something different.
    • If you have previously registered with Origin with a University of Delaware email account, use that account and its associated password.
    • On the registration page, click the Request button and an email containing a Product Key will be sent to you.
  2. Run Origin
    • Use the Product Key you receive via email to activate Origin using the dialog box which opens automatically.

Renew Origin License

If you get the message that Origin's maintenance has expired, please follow this procedure:
  1. Register for a NEW product key
    • Click this link to the Product Key Request page to get a Product Key.
    • Log in using your existing Origin account (i.e. username@udel.edu and it's associated password).
    • The page that follows should indicate that you already have an existing product key and show your existing Serial Number.
    • Click on Request another product key button and an email containing a Product Key will be sent to you.
  2. Run Origin and activate the new license
    • Click on the Help menu then Activate License...
    • Click on License.
    • In the License Activation pop-up, use the Product Key you receive via email to activate Origin, then select "OK".

Check for Origin Updates

  • Check for updates by selecting Check for Updates… from the Origin Help menu.  Download and install any available updates.
